Ever since I started working, I didn’t get the chance to work in an actual office. After graduating from college, I was hired by my current employer as a webmaster. Since then, I’ve been working from home remotely doing web design and web development projects using WordPress.

From my experience, working from home is certainly has more benefits than working in an office. Below are my reasons why it’s better.

1. You don’t need to commute.

Since you’re working from home, you don’t need to commute to work every day. Funny as it seems, you can literally avoid vehicular accidents or wasting so much time down the road because you’re stuck in traffic. You can also save money over time since you don’t need to travel to work. And most importantly, it’s healthier for you because you avoid gas emissions of the morning commute. 🙂

2. You have more control over your time.

The BEST thing about working from home is you get to control your precious time. You can always set your own schedule and work without constant supervision from your boss. Your time is flexible and you can get the opportunity of taking part-time jobs to earn money on the side. Moreover, you get to spend more time with your family while you are earning. Just be sure to create a separate space or room solely for work to avoid distractions.

3. You can take your job anywhere.

Since you’re working remotely, you can take your job anywhere you go as long as you have a laptop and a decent internet connection. How about sitting on the beach of Boracay (or somewhere else) vacationing while earning money? That’s cool, right?

4. You’ll get a chance to do other “cool stuff” or your hobby at home.

With “cool stuff” I mean homesteading. Surprisingly, some of the people I know who are working online do have small gardens at home. They grew fruits and vegetables on pots and they have a small chicken coop with lots of hen for eggs.

My boss from Florida, my current employer, is a proud goat farmer. His family is also raising chickens and ducks for meat and eggs on his farm. For me, these are cool stuff! You can’t do all these if you’re working in an office from 8 AM to 5 PM every day.

Just last year, I built my own chicken coop (of course, with the help of a handyman :)) and bought 30 chicks right off the bat from a small farm somewhere in Zamboanga del Sur, a 6-hour drive away from home. Today, I have plenty of chickens in my coop and producing at least a dozen of eggs every day. We’re selling these eggs in the neighborhood for only 5 pesos per egg – that’s 150 pesos per tray. Not bad, right?

Early this year, I built my own DIY incubator and started producing cute little chicks and we sell them for only 30 pesos each. As you can see, my hobby is now starting to generate income and provide meat and fresh eggs for my family to eat. That’s a huge SAVINGS for me while doing “cool stuff” at home.

5. You’ll save more money

Aside from the savings you get from not traveling to work, you can also save money on food and clothing. Since there is no dress code, you can just wear your pajamas and say bye-bye to your suit and polished shoes. In other words, you don’t need to buy another set of clothes for your everyday work.  You can also save money on food because you can easily cook your own meal and stir your own coffee at home without spending money at restaurants and cafes.
